Kathryn Bostic’s “The August Wilson Symphony”

The “Lift Every Voice” concert Saturday night with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra at Heinz Hall for the Performing Arts featured Phylicia Rashad as host and Aunt Esther in the world premiere of the August Wilson Symphony by Kathryn Bostic, a delicious Coplandesque tribute with an exquisite extended solo for Associate Concertmaster Mark Huggins and wonderful trumpet from Principal Micah Wilkinson.  Associate Principal Clarinet Victoria Luperi and her colleagues brought sun splashes to the Ashby Teenie Harris Suite.  15-year-old Ifetayo Ali had everyone on their feet with her thrilling Lalo Cello Concerto playing with style and charming with her conversation with maestro Lucas Richman . The Hill District All-Star Choir had the full house cheering to send everyone into the lobby for a hot piano jazz trio.
