Recording of “Washington Follies” from “American Scenes”:
The works assembled in this collection run the unabashed gamut of expressions for piano, with technically demanding works placed alongside the briefest of amuse-bouches, all serving as a reflective window upon the many emotions and ideas which live with us day in and day out.
Note from the Composer:
The piano has always brought me comfort as a source of solace and as a tool of inspiration. Since the age of five, it has been an integral centerpiece of my home, family life, work and social life. I have fought with it (practicing for piano lessons and numerous recitals and other concerts), made a living with it, celebrated with it…and cried while playing it.
Over the past thirty-five years, I have written various short piano works that have been the means by which I found I could musically express the emotions and ideas of a young man on his journey from student to mentor, from performer to creator and from son to father. After going through the life-changing experience of birthing a full piano concerto and seeing it grow from conception to its world premiere and subsequent commercial audio recording, I was moved to curate these shorter works into a collection that serves as a reflective window upon the very emotions and ideas which live with me to this day.
The works assembled in this present collection run the unabashed gamut of my expressions for piano, with technically demanding works placed alongside the most simplistic amuse-bouches. My only goal here was to pull into one place the many pieces that have formed a musical fabric of my consciousness. So, with that, I do hope that one might find, within these pages, several moments of enjoyment, hope, passion and peace.
